There are old stories about "flying ships" from the prehistory of every great civilization. The modern incarnations are UFOs.

History Channel would have you believe that Aliens built every magnificent, ancient thing. This is just a shade of difference from saying that "Fairies"and "Elves" built everything in a puff of fairy-dust. In fact, some episodes of History Channel go so far as to claim that "Fairies" are inter-dimensional / extra-dimensional / extra-terrestrial entities...

They were boats, people. And the stories about them were about BOAT PEOPLE.

I kind of like the glaringly obvious Sanskrit / Polynesian morpheme paring of:

UI + MANA / (#Vimana / विमान)

These appear in the Mahabharata, the Great War epic of Hindu Vedic literature.

#Sanskrit: #VI (वि): "to go back and forth", "tear asunder", "divide", "bird" #MANA (मान): "#form", "appearance", "#power"; c.f. #MAN (म्ना) "#think", "believe", "suppose", "#FAITH"

#Maori / #Hawaiian / #Samoan : From #UI: "to go back and forth" From MANA: "#authority", "(supernatural) power", "#knowledge", "#wisdom"

Or HOPI / Polynesian morpheme pairing: #PAATUWVOTA

From #PAA: "#water" From #TUVOT: "to #test out / #find / #learn / #explore"

Maori / Hawaiian / Samoan: From #PA: "to #burst (as #thunder a #sign of #rain / water)" From TU'UVA'A: "to set #sail on a #voyage"

"Flying shields" indeed! The epics are talking about water craft, not spacecraft.
